Dining DNA

Vancouver Island

Victoria BC has been known over the years to have more restaurants per capita than any other city in Canada.  There are so many coffee shops, street lunches, restaurants to choose from, it is easy for locals and tourists alike to figure out which restaurant has the best deal, has the best view or the best friendly service.

Because of this excess, the writer boldly claims that one can take time and experience, and get reviews from their local friends. It doesn’t take long to figure out where the locals prefer to dine.

Mile Zero Brewery: Metchosin

The Blonde Ale tried was really very good. Would be good to know how many calories it requires to taste that good but it reminded me of drinking fine wine, it takes a long time to finish a bottle of fine wine as the taste is so flavourful, it just sits on your tongue and slowly each single small sip just dissolves into your being.

With any great product, there is a cost. I was surprised when I ordered a blonde ale, and so I was surprised that after paying nearly eight dollars, I received what looked like an ‘in between’ glass of beer. Not a sleeve and certainly not a pint. $$$

Local review:
Pros:
The one type tasted (Blonde) was excellent. 4.2% and sits on your tongue like fine wine.

Cons:
The website they sold growlers to go. So after driving several miles to get there rather than a beer/wine store, upon arriving we were told they did not have any bottles in stock and we would have to drive back many miles to the nearest beer/wine store to buy a six pack to offer our guests who invited us to a get together which was near the brewery. Unfortunately the website which stated ‘Take a growler home’ …did not have info changed to say “out of growlers, new shipment arriving later this week”

As the website is only two pages and the most basic of any, the lack of diligence that could prevent new customers from driving distance to purchase from a new local establishment, the newly formed brewery relies on good tasting beer vs inconvenience to new local taste testers living in Metchosin.

Probably just working out the kinks of starting a new business.
